I am happy to announce the opening of the group exhibition, Linia Izei, at the Cultural Center of Săcel, Maramureș, this Sunday, July 14, starting at 18:00.
The group exhibition, curated by Marie Maertens, presents works made during an AFAR Maramureș residency by artists Yana Bachynska, Željko Benjamin, Tanja Boukal, Anetta Mona Chișa, Megan Dominescu, Bernhard Frue, Ilie Mihali, Shadhin Kamruzzaman, Donald Simionoiu, Delia Popa, Bogdan Rață, Mihaela Vezentan, Dan Vișovan, Christina Zurfluh, made of textile and recyclable materials. The works reflect both local and cultural influences and contribute to critical research aimed at developing a strategic plan of action for the sustainable development of our community.
The exhibition marks the reopening of the Cultural Center in Săcel. These cultural spaces have long been the focus of Romanian village life, evolving from early educational and cultural centers to instruments of communist propaganda and now dynamic community spaces. This reopening is the result of efforts to preserve and revitalize important institutions, ensuring that they will continue to enrich the community for future generations.
